Fair enough. NSD and to an extent i-ron are also knowledgeable on European football.
I do however, watch nearly every game in the Euro's and world cup's.

Have always had Sky Sports, BT Sports and every other load of crap going and generally the Premier league and champions league are the only comps I don't watch unless it's us.
No idea why I watch all the other guff, as their leagues are pretty crap really.
Was backing Payet for first goalscorer for a couple of seasons before we bought him, so my cock was out before he even pulled on the shirt ;o)

I had never heard of Payet, Lanzini, Ogbonna, Sakho, Adrian, Emenike, Kouyate, Obiang, Valencia, Hendrie..and to be honest hadn't even heard of Cressers, Antonio and Byram..
I only follow the PL, don't give a fuck about Europe and haven't really followed the Championship since we were there.

bit unfair mentioning lanzini. when he and payet were out we were obviously more defensive, hence why we drew something like 6 in a row didnt we? we worked harder defensively as we knew we were weaker in attack so bilic went for not losing instead of going all out for wins. now he is back we are attacking more, therefore are more open at the back. i also thikn that collins being out has hurt us more than anythign else, he was immense and was a proper leader at the back, also having tomkins at right back against certain opposition worked well.

It's funny that a defender that fans were clamoring for to sign a new long term deal, they are now ready to dispose of.
Reid is still a very good defender but for some reason he's going through a bad spell and making some poor decisions at times. I agree our defense lacks leadership and also that the midfield is the problem.
How many goals have we shipped since Lanzini came back into the side? How many since Ginge was injured, How many since Antonio is not only pushing teams back but providing support for the right back.
We are too open, the defense is disorganised and players are making mistakes under pressure. All the midfielders need to work harder at closing down not just stroll around. That includes Lanzini, Payet, Moses, Valencia and any other player played there.
I'm not convinced that we need to spend budget on a defender as a priority but I guess if one comes up that is exceptional or one of the current ones isn't settled and wants to move on then it makes sense to look.

Every position can be strengthened, though I have no idea of this chaps ability.

I was sure we were good for CB's, but now I'm wondering if we now need a top class CB to partner Oggy...Reid simply cannot be trusted to stay fit, Tomkins I like, but he will never be real top class, Collins the same, plus he's getting on, and maybe still too early for Burke..?

Of all our defenders I'd sell Reid at minute. Never fit and no way near the form of early season. Tomkins is more versatile.

It's going to be a hard long season so the more the merrier,Europe,the cups and league so players are going to get injured and you can't rely on kids for long periods as you will burn them out and ruin them for the long term.
